Horse + Bamboo

Horse + Bamboo Theatre create visual theatre in which music and story-telling is central. The company’s approach is practical and empirical rather than theoretical, and is non-verbal. It creates a complex and informed contemporary narrative theatre.

Masks, film, puppetry

Horse + Bamboo makes theatre that both draws on the contemporary reality of an image-drunk world and on atavistic roots of ritual and magic through the use of masks, film and puppetry.

The work

The company tours throughout the UK and internationally. Originally this was horse-drawn but nowadays is by van. It also runs Outreach work from the Horse + Bamboo Centre, and a Visual Futures programme that engages with new creative artists and companies working in visual performance. This ensures that the Company remains open to new ideas, artists and other creative partners.
